 TRANSITIONING FROM LEARNING TO EARNING

Proverbs 24:27; Ecclesiastes 10:15; Proverbs 1:5; 3:5-6; Psalm 119:99; Proverbs 24:3; 19:8

Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house. Making progress in this developed world that we live in should be the goal and desire of every youth. Information is key but it’s not profitable if one cannot turn it into money yielding venture. God has blessed every individual with the grace to learn. The capacity to learn is a gift, the ability to learn is a skill and the willingness to learn is a choice. Develop a passion for learning, because you will never cease to Earn. Joseph was an example of a youth who transited from learning to earning because he learnt a lot of things in life, in Potiphar’s house, in the hands of his brothers, in the prison before he became the prime minister where he earned in Egypt with the skill of interpretation of dreams. Generally speaking, we learn to earn and your learning greatly determines your earnings. When you learn, you acquire knowledge. This knowledge gives you an edge in the marketplace, especially when it is in hot demand. The challenge with many people is how to translate the knowledge or skill they have acquired into cash. The inability to do this has made many people frustrated and stranded in life.

TRAINING AND LEARNING TO DO EXPLOITS Daniel 1:17-21; 2Timothy 2:15; Proverbs 22:11; 4:5-9, 20-22 Learning is the process of acquiring basic knowledge about certain venture before adventure. Learning is more objective and perspective. It is of utmost importance that in any quest or phase of life, proper enquiries and sourcing for knowledge is carried out so as not to be a victim of ignorance. When proper knowledge of something is gotten, it brings clarity to obscurity, ensures certainty and affirms objectivity and credibility of opportunity. The basic essentials for learning are hoist in the formula SQ3R which means Study ask Questions, Read, Research and Review. Training and Learning here are acquiring functional knowledge or skills. If we will be able to earn after learning, the learning must be (i) purposeful. That is, learning with a purpose in mind. (ii) It must be painstaking. The youths of today are not patient and disciplined enough to acquire skill with relevant business secrets. Patience and discipline are very vital in our learning. Every business and skill have their secret. Today’s youths should not only strive to acquire skills but patiently and diligently acquire the secret of the vocation they have imbibed. (iii) Learning should be progressive. The quest to always find avenue to improve and adapt to changing technology must be inherent in a good learner. To be able to train and learn to do exploits, you must; Look: Look at the lives of those that have gone ahead of you as a guide (Hebrews 12:2). Listen: Listen to wise principles of the successful ones (Proverbs 12:15). Learn: Learn the strategies of doing exploits professionally spiritually, financially and all rounds (Romans 15:4). TECHNIQUES OF LEARING TO EXCEL Prov. 2:6-8, 2 Peter 3:18, Col. 1:10. The followings are some techniques of learning to excel: Discover your capacity (potential): The process of discovery is very important, Joseph discovered his own potentials Develop your tenacity: The process of development is a key technique for an individual who wants to transit from learning to earning. This process is time consuming. Deploy your ability: This technique entails you to put all your strength into the learning process in order to get every idea possible to earn at the end of the process. Apart from the above, you need to: Anticipate, Assimilate and Associate. Plan with your head. Practice with your hands. Pursue with your heart. TRANSITING FROM LEARNING TO EARNING Gen. 41:41-46; Dan. 2:27-49; Prov 26: 15; Psalm 119:99; Proverbs 24:3; 19:8 Daniel, Shedrack, Meshack and Abednego transited from learning the Hebrew language to earning from them. Joseph learnt almost everything about the Egyptians and earned from it (Genesis 41:41-46). When we have built capacity, obtained skills and developed ourselves, it is now essential that we create value from it and in it. Having knowledge without having value for it is a critical matter. It amounts to someone dying of hunger and yet he has much money in his pocket. Knowing how to create wealth is a totally different thing from knowing what brings wealth. To do this, you must: (Destination) Have a goal: Goal setting is very important because it keeps you focused and gives you inner strength to achieve it. (Direction) Be Helped by a guide: There are several guides we have from the scriptures and in our contemporary time that can help us to transit from learning to earning. Rom. 15:4. We must learn how to network with people. People create wealth and so when we network with men, we can transform the knowledge we have into money. The goods we have have to be sold to people. (Demand) Find out the needs of people. This is one of the biggest ways of earning money today. You need to know the needs of people and then work on the knowledge that you have to satisfy their most important desire. (Demography) Conduct customer survey right from the time of your tutelage. Find out what categories of people patronize your products (services). Don't just learn the art (making), learn the marketing through data gathering.  (Distinctiveness) Package your product or services in a unique way that will make it attractive and valuable to people. Then practice and engage in continuous improvement of your skill. (Diligence) Avoiding laziness. Many today have skill but due to procrastination, laziness, and others, they do not work hard neither are they dutiful to earn a living out of their labour (Proverbs 22:13, 26: 13). Hard-work backed-up with godly and gracious attitude like Joseph will transit one from learning to earning. (Discretion) Managing resources. To earn money, one must not be wasteful. You must learn to be very prudent with the resources that you have. (Decision) Following the Lord (Proverbs 21:1). One must give his life to Christ and follow him to get his blessings (Proverbs 3:9). (Declaration) Effective Product advertisement Mouth to mouth Fliers (photocopy write-ups) Banners Social Media etc. Don’t wait for them to come to you, GO TO THE PEOPLE. This publicity must be aggressive. You can engage family and friends to assist you in the publicity.
