How to Identify the different Valves on a V6 Engine

At times a person may make mistake when installing engine parts after carrying out servicing and maintenance. Therefore it is necessary to be extremely careful when installing engine parts in othe to avoid future damage and accident. One of my professor at school days says and i quote:"When a doctor makes mistake he kills somebody else(patience), but when an engineer makes a mistake he kills himself(while testing after servicing)". So we must be careful especially when overhauling and installing machine or engine parts, especially when added together after overhauling.

 

There are inlet valves with springs on it and at the same time there are open-rectangular fuel inlet. While there are also outlet valve without a open-rectangular outlet, but this one has a circular hole below it. The question now is, how do we identify the two valves when they are dismantled or overhaul. Because some people might make mistake in replacing the wrong valve into the wrong port and this may damage the working condition of the engine or gives it what i called engine flu. Therefore you might want to know which one should go right to where it was removed from. It might be a little difficult at times to know this things since you are not the engine inventor or manufacturer because this valves look alike.

We can identify the inlet by using a magnet to test if it will be attracted to it. Then we say that is an inlet valve, but if it does not attract to the magnet, then we say it is an outlet valve. Incase you might want to ask why the attraction necessary here? The out failed to attract because of the smoke and heat which had demagnetized the outlet valve by wearing way the attractive coating surface from the metal object of the valve. But the inlet still attracts because there is no much heat and smoke pressure acting on the surface of the inlet valve.
